Agency of the Month Highlight – January 2023

The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) wants Kansans to have electric, gas, and water services needed to keep their homes warm during the winter. The KCC also recognizes the customer's responsibility to make arrangements to pay for that service. The Cold Weather Rule was designed in 1983 to ensure that both goals are met.  You must make pay arrangements with your utility provider in order to use the Rule.

In addition there are local energy assistance programs available for households to apply for:

Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) in Kansas accepts applications starting January 3 and accepting them through March 31 at 5:00 pm applications are accepted online.
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in Missouri began accepting applications on November 1, you can also apply online or complete a paper application and apply locally.  For Jackson, Clay & Platte County residents your local agency is Mid America Assistance Coalitions LIHEAP here.
Salvation Army has applications available for energy programs for many of the Kansas and Missouri utility providers including but not limited to Kansas Gas Service and Atmos Energy.  Applications available for print on the website.
*see each program's website for eligibility criteria and applications
